Hummm.....The Proverbs 31 Woman....can we achieve this?
I have had lots of discussion with friends at different times in my life, regarding the Proverbs 31 woman. The opinion fluctuates quite a lot, but one feeling is always consistent, and that is; we all want to be her...
I think the Proverbs 31 woman is very achievable for all of us...But can we be all things at one time? I don't know. I do know the bible says ; " To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:" Eccl 3:1 I have found in my life, that at times I have had different traits of the Proverbs 31 woman, but not all things at one time...
I decided as a personal bible study, I would take on this chapter scripture by scripture, and apply it to my life...Here's where I am today:
" She makes her own bedspreads.
She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns.
Her husband is well known at the city gates,
where he sits with the other civic leaders.
She makes belted linen garments
and sashes to sell to the merchants."
She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns.
Her husband is well known at the city gates,
where he sits with the other civic leaders.
She makes belted linen garments
and sashes to sell to the merchants."
Proverbs 31:22-24
So, I, like many, many of the women in my life can completely relate to scriptures 22 & 24. We have become so crafty, and have learned so many amazing ways to show our God given talents...We have learned to decorate our homes to look like show places, we have created flowers, bows, headbands, shoe doo dads, accessories of every kind. We have created clothes in every shape, size and style.....Okay Sistah...we have ACHIEVED 22, & 24........
But what about scripture 23....? " Her husband is well known at the city gates, where he sits with the other civic leaders"... Are you setting your husband up for success amongst his peers? When people see you, what does that tell them about your husband. Is he respected at the "Gate of his City"?
I try, and I say try, because I am not perfect..I have not ACHIEVED this one...lol, I always try to behave in a way that will do my husband proud. Have you ever known a lady who maybe is a little less graceful than she should be, and it reflects in her husband? Now, I am not talking about someone who is kinda clumsy, or likes to cut up and have a good time. I am talking about the woman who acts without regard of how her behavior will reflect on her husband....
When your husband sits at the City Gate with other Civic Leaders, it requires a certain amount of grace and dignity on your part. Others watch you, they are learning how to live. You essentially have become a leader amongst women. I want to be that lady, who people say, "Oh that's Dan Godwin's wife". I want people to say or think, "she must run a good household, or take good care of her husband, because he is a great, and respectable man". And ready for this one ?????....."She must really respect the "chain of command" as outlined in the bible, (Eph 5:22-31) because it shows in her husband"....I know friends... I almost said the "S" word....SUBMISSION !!!
Can you believe it..? In my blog, I am talking about the "S" word ??? I think my followers just decreased..lol
The "S" word is hard for a lot of women...there have been "seasons" in my life, where it was down right impossible...lol. But through God, we can do all things..Examine your life and heart, what can you do differently...? Support him Spiritually, Encourage him emotionally, Engage him Intellectually , and Affirm him Physically (see a Dr. about all the headaches.......lol)
Vow, to set your husband up for success...
Maybe you are not in a place in your life where you are willing to take on this challenge..but I want all I can get from God. I want to be all I can be for him. I have found the more I pursue God, the easier it is for me to achieve the traits of the Proverbs 31 woman..and honestly...it's enjoyable.
I hope you will be inspired to pick up your bible today, turn to Proverbs 31, and start a new adventure in your life...you'll be amazed at the change in your household, family, and your marriage...and before you know it, you will feel a new sense of pride in the woman you are....
God Bless You...
J
